It does not embody the spirit of Christmas nor does it even try to pay lip service to it. Christmas isn't the subject, it just happens to be there. You can't be a christmas movie if you aren't about christmas. Boring joke. It's as much a christmas movie as the Mr Bean Movie is a thanksgiving one because he blows up a turkey.

Literally every "spirit of Christmas" movie is about families reconciling some bullshit grudge to spend Christmas together. Sometimes they have Santa and sometimes they don't.

If Die Hard isn't a Christmas movie then National Lampoon Christmas Vacation isn't a Christmas movie either.
