DS2 wasn't really worked on by Miyazaki, the big creative mind behind FromSoft. So it can feel out of place in context of the series. It plays a bit differently from the others (I think a different engine?), it had development issues that resulted in some broken up level design and ugly texturing, and there's a quantity > quality issue in regards to the bosses. An updated release called 'Scholar of the First Sin' is now the defacto version but it introduced some ridiculous difficulty changes, mostly by adding too many enemies to areas, which makes the runs back to boss rooms really obnoxious since there's 3 seconds when you touch a fog wall where you can get hit and the animation canceled, so you have to fight all those enemies.

Anecdotally, it's just not a memorable game. Upon my series replay I remembered 80% of Dks1 and like 5% of Dks2.
Ah I gotcha. I'll still play it, cause I like to play stuff in order even if it doesn't matter. Sounds like I have more to look forward to with DS3 than DS2. I do have scholar of the first sin. I have the steam versions of each game

Kinda salty I don't have a console to play Bloodborne on cause it looks really cool as well. But I'm not gonna buy a system for one game. Maybe one day idk
