#1 is indisputably something from outer space. A wave, a storm, a hail, etc ~ something from space could easily end earth at a moments notice. Less.

#2 is ourselves.

To call describing humankind as an apex predator an understatement would (in and of itself) be an understatement. Ha!

We consider ourselves to be the only known completely sentient organisms. And look around. If the world isnt ready to come clean after the past 35 years, when wil we be? I can understand the fact that we cant fix everything over night, but at some point it just becomes painfully clear that (instead of just telling the truth) all these strange excuses get made up.

Why?

To save face & all that plush? This country wasnt founded on *that* at either of the 3 major turns in history. Revolution. Civil War. Cold War. It is in facing the harsh realities & doing what must be done & speaking plainly that America was born.

The finer workings of society do not need poverty & strife to sustain themselves. You have to draw the line somewhere. It is a lesson as old as time. With no heart, we cannot go on. Its in our DNA. No matter how hard they get under the pressure of whatever is thrown at them, people come from and move into a soft, frail state with age. We are not carnivorous, coldblooded monsters. Even if we are capable of being that. Some things are just too precious to trifle with, no matter who you are, or how powerful you are, or what your reason may be. That, I think, is the lesson we need to relearn today. To respect human life, to give everyone their dignity, to leave nobody behind, and to attend to matters that need attending.

This whole turn a cold shoulder, blind eye, then cry wolf when the ball ends up in the other court thing really grind my gullet.
