theawesomestevr's Thoughts on the GM of the Year Candidates

Bloodychess
+ Finished with a league-best 14-2 record

Seems like a very notable achievement, but I honestly don't remember what their roster moves have been over the last couple of seasons so perhaps it's tough to give credit where credit is due.

KCF
+ Took over a team without a playoff appearance since S2 and led them to tie their franchise best record and won the NFC South for the first time.
+ Brought in 23 new players, including 14 on offense and eight starters overall as he helped them to finish with the #6 offense, #11 defense, and a +87 point differential.

I'd need to see a list of all the roster moves, but I remember thinking prior to last off-season this would be a piece of cake for KCF to turn around both because it's KCF and because they already had some key talent in place with plenty of cap space. So certainly once it was known who the QBs available in FA were, I expected Leak to sign here and for the Orcas to be instantly in contention, but even before that I suspected as much. I'm actually a little surprised they only won 9 games, but I didn't pay attention to other teams' injuries this year as I noted earlier.

Also, obviously I'm always going to give the nod to other users unless KCF did something especially insane in terms of turnarounds because doing otherwise to me is somewhat akin to Madden giving the ai perfect draft grades

Ranlom
+Focused on bringing in new defensive blood, including three new CBs and saw them finish T-8th in pass defense
+ Led the Chiefs to their first winning season since S5

- DId not make the playoffs

My rival for incompetence in this league has almost surpassed me, but fortunately he's still multiple playoff appearances short. In fact he still has zero. But I do have to give him credit for turning around the Kansas City 6-10ers to a winning record in the toughest division in the league this season no less.

ScareChan
+ Navigated a tricky offseason to lead the 49ers to a franchise best record and first ever conference #1 seed
+ Incumbents they elected to promote more or less succeeded, including QB Mitchell Trubisky finishing 9th in passer rating and HB Thomas Rawls leading the league with 16 rushing TDs.

- Free agent signings were all major busts. WR Cordarelle Patterson was given a $20+ mil contract to give them 25 rec for 147 yards in 12 starts, WR Brandin Cooks was paid over $5 mil to give them 17 rec for 142 yards in 8 games, and the 3-4 D is somehow paying three DTs in excess of $3.3 mil annually, including offseason signing Demonte Bolden who gave them 5 tackles and 2 sacks.

A strong contender if only for the greatly underappreciated, genius signing of Returner of the Year Cordarelle Patterson. Seriously though, impressive record by Scare this season. Much better than expected. Hats off to him as he's a strong contender for my vote.

TheSultanOfSlam
+ Signed or drafted many notable players to turn around a sagging offense including HB Eddie Lacy (1877 total yards, 7 TDs) and likely Off Rookie of the Year front-runner OT Kolton Miller (72 blocks, 3 sacks)
+ Made several gutsy in-season adjustments to turn their season around, most notably benching QB Tim Tebow for 4th round rookie Reuben Lane, and saw him win all six games he started en route to a winning record

A perennial nominee for this award, Sultan and his Jags had a very impressive 6-game winning streak to cap the season that, like Ranlom's Chiefs, was one win short of a playoff bid.

All in all, it's a tough call who I'll take for this year's General Manager of the Year, but I'll keep my pick secret for now - though KCF is welcome to share it if he feels like at the awards ceremony
