I have never understood why so many people think there's actually a hidden word there.

"So long-a Bowser!"
"It's-a me, Mario!"

It's the same thing. It's just an extra syllable because that's how he talks.

Only difference between the two is in his accent, the "g" at the end of "long" becomes pronounced for the beginning of the "uh" sound. So it sounds like "long-guh" instead of "long-uh". It's the same reason people with a stereotypical/exaggerated Long Island accent sound like they're saying "Lawn Guyland" when they're saying "Long Island".
