between the buried and me - colors
Right off the bat this is going in a lot of different places really fast.

I'm going to have to say this early. I don't generally like growling. The are very few, specific cases where it adds anything for me. This singer isn't the most offensive example I've heard, so there's that, and there are a few parts where I do appreciate it. Still, a net negative.

Decade of Statues is a wild ride like the first song. Also extremely varied like it. If the whole album is like this, I'm going to have no idea what to feel. There are moments that I think the guitarwork is boring and cliched, moments where I love it, moments where I can't help but notice how good the drumming is, moments where I lament how obnoxious the vocals are, and moments where I do think the growling is perfectly suited.

Informal Gluttony seems to be following the trend, though I'm higher on it on average than the last. HOLY SHIT DIDGERIDOO alright best track guaranteed

Wow they are peaking hard on Sun of Nothing jesus christ this is a brickwall that suddenly turns into a lost System of a Down song for 15 seconds?? The calmer section halfway through was actually really good. Ants of the Sky follows the same trends as the rest, but I have to mention I am cracking up at the hoedown that comes in out of nowhere. Very cool chords in Pre-Sequel's intro

I've noticed a trend that runs pretty strongly through this album. Whenever there isn't singing, I like the song more. This seems tautological, as I've said I don't really *like* the singing, but I'm saying this based purely on the instrumental. If you had stems of this and were only listening to the guitar, you could tell almost exactly which segments had growling based on the sudden change from really cool instrumentals to very straightforward angry chugging or much more simple riffs. I understand that this probably does a lot to increase the impact of the vocals; sadly, that's mostly lost on me.

This bring me to my overall impression of the album. I recognize that this is amazing, with the caveat that I'm not enamored with it. If I was somebody who liked the "default" music here, it'd likely be a favorite. Without that, it's something I can only wholly appreciate "objectively", and I'm only personally invested in about half of the length, with the other half being mostly there. I'm very sorry steiner. I would've loved to love it. Great nom regardless. It was definitely worth listening to, and I found on my second listen that when I'm not actively listening as much, I naturally kind of tune out the parts I don't care about (except the actual brickwal in Sun of Nothing) and focus more when I do like it
