Or are you being too literal?

Its almost impossible to get the sense of the movie trilogy as an arc, and not just because they were shot in a very rapid order. Instead, the movies come off as a bunch of unrelated pieces connected only by a central figure.

I recently made the argument that The Empire Strikes Back is the perfect film to explain this very sentiment. It had the least amount of plot in a given film, yet made up for it with an almost-supernatural sense of gravity. It showed us a galaxy in turmoil and its heroes in a hopeless and desperate situation. This is the most emotional piece of the trilogy; it hits you on a visceral level.

Which brings us to Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. The least perfect film of the trilogy, despite a lot of peoples opinion that its the greatest. The story is too broad.
