Final Fantasy V (GBA)

One of the very few games I had still left on my GBA backlog, but after about 15 years in my possession I finally beat the game, right after I beat FFIX less than a week ago!

I couldn't get into this one for a long time and it didn't get easier after playing through the entire Bravely series plus Final Fantasy III basically in a row last fall/winter, with FFV being yet another game with the job system, so I played this one on and off. However, I went on a bit of a marathon the last few days, especially today, to finally finish it. It's a great game, the job system inherently makes this one of the better Final Fantasy titles in terms of gameplay, but there were a lot of times where I felt a little bored as well, either from it being tedious or feeling uneventful. The story became more interesting after the first part while still keeping that lighthearted tone, which was nice to see. And as always in these job-system games, you can get stupidly overpowered at the end and it's always fun to arrive at that point. I absolutely smashed the final few bosses and I love that. Nevertheless, because I had already played those Bravely games, Final Fantasy V wasn't as impressive or exciting to me anymore, even though it came first of course. I think the charm, homages, little jokes and easter eggs are the best things about it. Overall, I think it's going to be a mid tier FF for me, around FFIV (which was the opposite of FFV in terms of its strengths and weaknesses), but I still have II, VI, VII and VIII left to play/beat.
