Better to do it on the last day of the month, especially if you receive government assistance; if you are on governmental assistance you are often paid for the month on the first, but if you die on any day that is not the last day of the month, the government will ask for the remainder of the money back. That money is spent and gone and you are stuck making funeral arrangements while the government is hounding you to repay the "balance".
