pokemon remakes always felt like a fully updated version of the world, like they're always fully bringing the region into the current generation as much as possible. this time it seems for the first time they are kind of not really doing that.

and seems for the first time Gamefreak are not really developing the remakes in-house. so it's definitely end of an era.

leaf green and fire red, sure. because the originals were on the original gameboy.

soulsilver and heart gold, sure, because the originals were on the original gameboy

so those four games are going to look like a massive improvement because of that, but really they stayed fairly true to their original counterparts

omega ruby and alpha sapphire, you could have a case for that, sure, but...not quite. it still looks enough like the originals that it feels the same.

lets go pikachu and eevee are their own thing entirely and don't really count
