Did you manage to do Quina's side quest before getting to Gransys?
I messed that up my first time, it's so easy to miss it and if you do it locks you out of a bunch of side quests later and a port crystal... :(
Actually there's also a super easy to miss initial side quest w/ Madeline too, though it's not as bad to miss out on that one (unless you really like her and want all of her sidequests, of course).
That's an annoying aspect, the game is utterly merciless w/ terminating side quests when you progress. I ended up using the guide on the wiki to avoid missing them...

Also a warning for later.... It involves a side quest and has no impact on the main plot, but I'll spoiler it in case you don't want to see it:
When you get the side quest to babysit Fournival's daughter for a while, make a checkpoint save at the inn or a rift stone before accepting it (sometimes the game glitches and gives you a normal save at a rift stone, so make sure the text at the bottom says "checkpoint save"). If you finish the quest and get anything other than a gold statuette...forgot what its official name is.... as a reward, reload to the checkpoint save and try again. That one is super easy to fail or not fully succeed on and it sucks to not get the best reward because it will unlock the best weapons and armor from the shop.
