inflation. 50k salary in the 80s could get you a home. Hell even in the 90s rent was affordable. But now everything has gone up.

I would say milennials are the most educated generation before them in terms of being schooled, but it doesn't mean a whole lot when you didn't need a bachelors back then to make a living. And now rent has gone up dramatically, as well as tuition and food and most other things.

100k salary in california can't get you a house, unless you live somewhere where you don't pay rent and you can save up. And a 1 bedroom apartment averages $2000 here. If the recommendation of no more than 33% of your pay be allocated to rent, you'd have to have to be making 72k to afford a 2000 bedroom apartment.
