The whole of society will never NOT dive face first into disgust in defense of "children" if you suggest "adult thing". People would have probably reacted a lot better to teenagers instead of children since one is a very broad term and one specifically indicates adolescence. As for the validity of her statement, it would never work even for teenagers.
