Also, the best advice I can give for the normal card game with no rule alterations is to always look a step ahead.

if you flip a card over, what sides of your card are exposed for taking? What sides of the opponents card are vulnerable?

Also, a safe opening move is if you have a strong card strong on two sides and weak on the opposite sides you can just place it in the corner. You should study his hand to make sure he cannot flip it back.

Also look at the opponents cards to scope out his moves before you make yours. Before you play a card, you need to check and see how he could flip it. If you find those situations where you can play a card and flip something he cannot take its exposed sides by studying his hand, you will win more often.
