I mean, as far as I understand, the entire political compass was created by American right-leaning Liberatarians to try to make themselves seem more important than they actually are.

Notice how there's four political categories, and American right-leaning Libertarian is one of the four. Now compare that to the real world--do you really think American right-leaning libertarians represent 25% of the political views worldwide? It certainly doesn't represent very many governments worldwide, I'll say that much.
classical/economic liberalism was a fairly significant political philosophy historically in the West, and it's kind of fallacious to argue that because a section of a model isn't used as much (nowadays), the model as a whole is biased or flawed. Is Celsius a terrible temperature scale because it's focused on 0-100 yet we very rarely use the rang of 50-90 degrees (incidentally, yes, but you probably disagree). The way it's organized makes sense, and the scaling/centering bias should be pretty easy to calibrate just by comparing the positions of a couple of leaders whose policies we understand well.
