Beyond that, another gripe I have is that rituals and fusions make sense thematically. You are sacrificing something in a ritual, or fusing 2 monsters together (Like dark magician girl dragon knight, or meteor black dragon) and usually they will fit the theme of what you're playing. IE if you fuse a warrior and a fire monster, you're getting a flame swordsman.

Yes, there are some amusing ritual scenarios out there like Resurrection of Chakra where the sacrifice depicted has a lore cost almost indicting the player using it. There are other examples, but that's the one that stands out in my mind.

The themes associated with XYZ materials ('overlay units') and the resultant monsters are examined closely in the animation; cards taken alone, it's a bizarre system, indeed.
