We tried.
Yeah, it's really tragic and frustrating that this is happening.
When people in the US started getting covid, we looked at what happened in China with how many people were dying and realized it needed to be taken seriously. This was met with "more people die from the flu," "it's just a cold," "it won't get that bad here because we're more prepared," etc.
When 10 people died, we realized it was probably going to get bad. Same thing. Downplaying, gaslighting, outright lying, etc.
When 50 people died, we tried to explain that it was a big deal. "More people die from car accidents!" "More people die from the flu!"
When 100 people died, same thing.
When 1000 people died, same thing.
When 10,000 people died, same thing.
When 50,000 people died, same thing.
When 100,000 people died, you started to hear more of "They're dying WITH covid, not FROM covid!" "Hospitals are paid more to say people died from covid!"
When 200,000 people died, it was "They're just saying every death is a covid death!"
It's fucking frustrating as hell. Now we have vaccines that are incredibly effective at preventing hospitalization and death from covid, but even a lot of people who are working on the front lines watching people die of covid all day every day still don't want to get vaccinated.
We have fucked ourselves as a country with this rampant stupidity.
