You park and make another phone call.

"Hello?" a woman says.

"Yes, hi," you say. "My name is Rorek Null VII, I'm calling about 176 Ledyard Street, in Jump City."

"Oh, yes, I'm the owner."

"Oh, good," you say. "I was hoping to make an offer on the house, but I was also hoping we could talk in person as opposed to on the phone."

"Well, I'm running some errands right now," she says. "If you're willing to wait a little bit, I'll be there."

"Of course," you say. "Thank you, hope to see you soon."

"Alright, see you soon," she says.

You hang up and wait with Raven. She shifts to sit side saddle as she looks both ways on the street.

"So who is the landlord?" she asks after a few minutes pass.

"A woman," you say. "She sounded about our parents' age."

"Oh, okay," she says. "I wonder if she'll feel odd renting to someone who could be her kid."

You chuckle then check your phone for the time. It is about 11:30, so hopefully you can wrap this up before lunch.

After another 15 minutes, a car pulls up and into the driveway. You can hear the parking brake put in before the engine shuts off, and then a woman exits from the driver's side. The woman indeed looks to be in your parents' age range, her red hair starting to gray.

"Hi," she says. "Rorek?"

"Yes, hello," you say. "And this is my fiance, Raven."

"Oh, hello," she says again, "I'm Tiffi Snelpucker."

You and Tiffi shake hands, as does Raven.

"So I guess you two are already looking ahead for a place once you're married, right?" Tiffi says with a sly smile.

"Yes, actually," you say. "Now, I know your sign says you want to rent this house, but I have a proposal. What is the monthly rent you're asking for?"

"Umm..." Tiffi says, understandably suspicious now. "$3500 flat."

"A reasonable number," you say. "Now, what if I could give you a million dollars right now just to out and out buy the house?"

"W-What? A million dollars? I-Is this some kind of joke?"

"No, miss, it is not," you say.

"Yeah, I can verify that Rorek could get you a million dollars in like, one single phone call," Raven says.

Tiffi laughs nervously, still unsure of your offer.

"This has to be a scam," she says. "You can't possibly have a million dollars."

"All you have to do is look up the Null Family," you say.

Tiffi raises an eyebrow but brings out her smartphone. She taps around and is surely searching the internet. She raises her eyebrow and then holds her phone up. She must be comparing you to a picture she found.

"So you're some kind of heir to a fortune?" she says. "And you just want to throw your money at me for my great-aunt's home?"

"Well putting it like that makes me sound bad," you say. "At $3500 a month, it'll take you nine months and 23 years to make a million dollars. But I could give you a million dollars now and you'd be set for those 23 years."

"Well, that is true, but..." Tiffi says, still unsure.
