I definitely recommend the manga, the first couple volumes might be hard to go through because its so goddamn depressing, dark and Guts seems like a real asshole until one certain panel. Then the flashback starts and everything is great and awesome, but then the Eclipse happens :( and so much more shit happens after. I really hope Miura's assistants continue the manga, it won't be the same without him, but they knew what he wanted for the series to end.
