You're assigning way too much to a term that just shortens what you describe, and your assignment doesn't make sense. You're concerned with people trying to frame opinion as fact, even though you know that is impossible, and, at best, tangential to the subject.

You know what's a shorter way of saying "the period-related factors of this <media> have turned out to be lower quality and/or flawed than originally interpreted?"

It aged poorly. Maybe some people explain themselves poorly, or have a poor understanding of what opinions are, but that doesn't mean it invalidates people using those two words in order to describe a thing.

On top of that: Hardware limitations are hardly the only factors. Game design, code efficiency, camera angles, general style of directing: Some things were always possible even with hardware limitations, but just not figured out until later. Or they were rushed in a way that no one would appreciate for lack of competition at the time.

The most commonly cited factors of game design that aged poorly are lives systems and collect-a-thons. A more specific example would be, say, Jet Set Radio, where, despite the animation and potential control assignment existing, you don't get to choose what tricks you character does.
