This just seems like opinion-related defensiveness.

We can look back on things we once thought were good and see how they weren't as good as we thought. This isn't specific to video games.

If you say, "I didn't like The Godfather," that's fair.
If you say, "The Godfather aged poorly," that's being pretentious.

It's an attempt to turn an opinion into an objective fact by coming up with a definitive standard of measurement: age.

It's true that some video games have aged. Older games were shorter because of limited cartridge space. That's an objective truth. Some had technical or graphical limitations, sure, but "aged poorly" is mostly just a means of saying, "I have the right opinion."
