Synchro summons were a little overpowered, but overall they made the game more interesting. Xyz and especially Pendulum summons are just way too broken. You can regularly flood the field in one turn, power creep is absurd, and things go from 0 to 80 in no time. I'd bet there's been some new ridiculous summon methods since then too.
