No matter which way you cut it, Katy Perry's Teenage Dream era is among the most successful in the history of pop music and the Billboard chart. She also had hits before and after that album with I Kissed a Girl, Roar and Dark Horse.

In my opinion her music quickly degraded in quality after Dark Horse, which lost the interest of the general public. On top of that, the general public's interest in music changed drastically from the early 2010s pop girl era to the Billie Eilish/Post Malone/whatever era we have now. It would have been impossible for Katy (or Gaga, or Rihanna, or almost any other artist from that era not named Justin or Taylor) to stay as relevant as she was without changing her sound.

At the end of the day, I don't think she had a massive dedicated fan base that made her successful - she just tapped into exactly what the public wanted at the right time and was able to absolutely dominate for 2 or 3 years because of it. She has nothing to prove anymore, because she's already proved it.
