My router is downstairs in my living room behind my TV, and I'm currently on my computer upstairs in my office which I also use for gaming. In my office I have a wifi extender plugged into a socket, an ethernet cable running from it to a network switch, and another ethernet cable from that to my computer. My home is about ~1500 sq ft I've done a ton of speed tests using multiple sites because I spent a good bit of money on the equipment and wanted to justify the purchases, and it's pretty much the same speed it is when I had my laptop directly connected to my router by ethernet cable (300/~300).
