What is wrong with wanting to know if the vaccine is a yearly thing or a one time thing? Everyone is taking off their masks would suck to find out months later your protection is temporary.

The trials happened less than a year ago. The people who were vaccinated during the trials are still protected, and they're monitoring those people to get an idea of how long the protection from the vaccines lasts.

The reason they don't know how long the vaccines protect you for is because the first people who took them less than a year ago still have protection now. They can't just create data that says people will be protected for X amount of time because the people they're monitoring from the trials are still being monitored and still have protection so far.
