#55:

Rose Gun Days - linkage-alter [7.0]
Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure - Soaring Through Azure Sadness [7.5]
Kaze no Notam - Discovery [8.5]

MATCH 1:
I still enjoy Soft Collision, [6.5] having used it in my first full-length VGMGG, but it's definitely like an artifact of my developing music taste. Gotta give it up to virt though--will never not be impressed by the man's work ethic.

linkage-alter is really, really close to being something I would love, but it's pretty inconsistent and starts to lose steam after the two minute mark. Just kinda hitting on those same beats 'til I'm numb and not paying attention anymore. Those cool moments are COOL though and ultimately eke out the match for me.

MATCH 2:
Here we are, back again. Azure Sadness has got some really solid moments, like the refrain followed shortly by the solo part at 2:47. Also love that weirdo hymnal bit at 0:23 and 2:25. I like this more and more with each listen, and suspect the score could climb higher should it go the distance into round 2. It will

Fuse Man Stage [6.0] is marred by its production, above all. I can hear it as a regular PSG tune in my head and I like that imaginary version of the song a lot more than this one. Actually yeah, here's a fan arrange to support my case: https://youtu.be/ggj-WdeCFpY
The core song is fun and faithful to classic Mega Man, but the EDM's just not for me. Do see the appeal, though!

MATCH 3:
Discovery's amazing, full-stop. Kaze no Notam/Notam of Wind, for those who don't know, is about piloting a hot air balloon through oversized, empty environments, letting the wind push you along toward the goal as your only input is to inflate and deflate the balloon. I bring that up because I believe context is important and can elevate appreciation for the music. Once you know what Kaze no Notam even is, how it plays, what it looks like--the pieces start to fall in place. I especially love the foley sound that starts around 1:38, which isn't unlike a hot air balloon decompressing. Context!

Fury Sparks [5.0] is music and I can listen to it with my ears. It would sound like an early 90s anime OP if you changed around the production and added vocals. "GO! BLINDING FURY SPARKS (TV Size)"
