When his family points out that he himself has a bit of a gut, he decides to lose it. Despite dieting and working out, he actually ends up gaining and gaining weight. He starts to suspect his wife and daughter are sabotaging him in retaliation for mocking his son's girlfriend, and you do indeed see them secretly injecting lard into his celery. It gets to the point where he's suspended from the CIA because his "unhealthy weight" means he can't pass the physical. The twist is that he was never gaining weight, he lost so much that he is now horrendously, unhealthily thin.
