You either take a plea deal even if you know you are innocent or you face a trial where everyone is pissed off that you didnt just plead guilty. Not to mention that if someone is denied bail they could spend months or even years in jail before getting their day in court. The entire system is a lot more broken than you realize. Police should not simply be trusted to be good people, because far too many of them are angry and corrupt.
