I'll throw in my two cents. BNW makes the game playable for me because it removes stupid missable crap (now big missable chests are things like money instead) and makes every character play differently instead of being able to learn every magic on everyone

I don't think I've ever beaten the game, but that's only because I can never find the urge in any FFVI playthrough to go through Kefka's tower after collecting everyone. To me, the fun part is over at that point, ha.
