It isn't the fighting itself that was scummy it was the
before the tournament part. And it was the fact that the good guys were the initiators of those unsanctioned battles. Like the
Goro Fight is completely morally justified because he is actually just defending himself and his family.
Hell all they had to do was change
"Raiden teleports us all together in the specific combinations of our choosing" to
"let's go to these places and lure them into attacking us again, but this time we'll be ready". And suddenly the morality of Earthrealm doesn't have to be thrown under the bus. The other option of course would be to cut out some of the crap in the middle of the movie and actually
have the damn tournament in THIS movie. But even if they want to save that for later (fine) then they needed to do a make any attempt at all to establish
how long until the tournament was supposed to occur. Because watching the movie I had no idea how long they were meant to be training for, but they made it sound like they needed to unlock their Arcana ASAP without giving any context for when ASAP would be.It's just bad storytelling. And i'm not saying the story itself needs to BE good. By all means tell me a very basic story because at it's heart this is a popcorn action movie. But take that simple story and at least tell it correctly. By omitting anything that gives anything else context I just feel like there were never any stakes.
