Thorium is 3 times more abundant than uranium, it's easier, cheaper, safer, and more environmentally friendly to mine, ton for ton can produce as much as 200 times more energy than uranium with about 1/100th as much waste produced, it produces waste that is less radio-toxic, it's nearly impossible to make a bomb from a thorium reactor's byproducts, and most thorium reactor designs are meltdown-proof.
