Disaster seems like hyperbole. I really can't find a lot of information on it effecting the Australian economy on a major scale, but I'm open to links.

Criticism is valuable, but emotional denunciation isn't. Sure, gun buyback programs can be improved. Doesn't seem like it went too poorly overall though.

ya it's a little hyperbole. The gist of it is a farmer would use their $500 gun (not to scale) for normal defense related activities (like hostile emus) after the buyback they only got maybe $150 (not to scale).
