As someone with very similar taste as you, I cannot recommend it enough. Its manga is almost as good as Berserk, and the anime is a near 1:1 replication. Its based in real life, and is a harsh, Viking, character drama. Its extremely well done. The anime is available on Amazon Video. This is pretty much the best recommendation for your tastes.
