Alcohol is taboo in the states. I don't think there's anything wrong with having a drink at a lunch, work dinner, or event. Maybe even a meeting. But if you need that drink, or if you have more than one drink, if you are drinking at the front desk or while teaching, or are otherwise drunk at work - or had anything while operating heavy machinery or vehicles, obviously there is a problem. And even with those stipulations, society may have a problem with it because again, drinking is taboo in the states or rather - drinking culture is just very bad and other cultures have better relationships with alcohol.
Yeah, I think it's true that it's a culture thing. I used to work in Asia and we'd have beer in our fridge and we'd have a glass on our lunch break in the office. Then after work most will still behind for another drink and then go off with the boss for more drinks else where (I usually didn't end up going tho).

Says the person who doesn't understand why it's frowned upon to drink at work

I always drink responsibly. Lots of people can as well. We shouldn't let a few idiots ruin it for the rest of us.

You basically answered your own question is my point lol

I don't see how I did? It's frowned upon to have even one drink even when you're not working a dangerous job.
