there are a few important things to note about canto ostinato. first of all, there's also versions for two pianos and even four pianos. obviously, this is the one keyboard version so all of the interesting interplay between the different pianos (or keyboards) is lost. second of all, there is no "definitive" version of the piece. ten holt let the players decide which sections they would play, how often they would repeat certain sections, etc. so there's tons of different versions out there. this guy just rushes through the first 84 sections without repeating anything. kind of interesting how different this version is from the more reich-ish repetitive versions i'm more used to listening to (the hour sixteen minute version you found is in that category) but this isn't a version i ever wish to hear again. i agree that the jump cuts are very jarring and inhibit the flow of the composition.
