Mario's Super Picross (Switch)

It's picross. Upon trying it, you generally either won't get the appeal at all or you'll get hooked, and I've fallen into the latter group ever since I played Picross 3D almost a decade ago. That made it very satisfying to return to picross after almost as long holding onto nothing more than my memories. Speaking of satisfying, there's the measured, yet visceral simplicity of smashing one block at a time, a process perhaps only a picross fan would enjoy, and I was pleasantly surprised to keep unlocking more puzzles every time I thought I might have reached their end. In fact, I still haven't started the Special puzzles over 50 hours in, but it felt safe to count those as post-game content. It's also perfectly playable without knowing any Japanese, as I can attest to - though I recommend choosing the right/second option upon starting Mario puzzles.

All in all, probably my favorite game I've beaten this year to date, though it's hard for me to distinguish any of the four as ones I definitively prefer to any of the others.
