Super Mario Odyssey (Switch)

I'm not sure why I didn't expect that ending, but the surprise factor certainly elevated an already well-done sequence for me. It's a good thing too, since the area immediately before was perhaps the least fun I had playing Super Mario Odyssey, though it was only partially the game's fault.

Otherwise, for as many different ideas as it tried using the same mechanics, I found an experience remarkably consistent in its enjoyability. The downside is that it never really reached any exhilarating highs, so while I would call Super Mario Odyssey a great game, it's not exactly my new favorite Mario game.
