tbh i thought goku was THE character in the series.

Gohan was cool and all but goku is legend.

Dragon Ball as a whole is obviously about Goku, but you can definitely argue that Gohan was the Co-MC throughout Dragon Ball Z.

-Saiyan Saga after Raditz is defeated the show primarily follows Gohan until Goku comes back but even afterwards Gohan still plays a major role in defeating Vegeta and technically is the one to defeat Vegeta in the end.

-The Namek Saga is primarily focused on Gohan/Krillin/Vegeta until Goku comes back.
Then Gohan and co fight Frieza for a while until Goku comes back again and it's just Goku vs Frieza for a while.

-The Android/Cell saga is the one that features Gohan the least, but to be fair it also features Goku the least as well until the middle of the Cell arc. One of the coolest things about the Android/Cell arc is that it's mainly carried by multiple characters (Trunks/Vegeta/Piccolo/ect.) until the end when it's clearly about Goku and eventually Gohan taking the reigns at the end.

-Then obviously Gohan is the clear MC in the beginning of the Buu Saga. When he's out of commission the lead role kind of shifts to Goten/Trunks but Gohan takes the lead back only to be permanently sidelined by Goku when he comes back to life.

Then it's not even a question whether or not Goku is the MC in GT/Super
