That would be a correct, though extremely simplified, way to put it.

(The "from hunting bats for food" thing isn't necesserially correct either, though it does ultimately link back to bats somehow. We don't know for sure what the "somehow" is yet.)

Also, I think what you might be trying to get at with how you're using "discovered", could be what's known as the "spillover event"?
