Top 10 Favorite Games of 2020

#1. Final Fantasy VII Remake

This is a game that shouldn't exist. It's impossible that Square-Enix not only managed to put out a remake of Final Fantasy VII (well part 1 of a Final Fantasy VII remake), but managed to create something that was not only REALLY GOOD but is well liked by both fans old and new. Now the original FF7 is far from my favorite one, like it's not even in my top 5 and I liked FF8 and FF9 more as far as the PS1 games go. As I sit here now though I'm thinking I like this Midgar only chunk of a FF7 remake more than the entirety of original FF7.

This is a remake in all of its definitions. It starts out retelling the story of FF7 in stunning detail with a completely revamped battle system that makes all the party members feel unique and fun to use and with a localization that clearly a step above anything else Square-Enix has ever done. The hand of Nomura is felt as you progress through this story and realize they're not actually remaking FF7, but the story and world and REALITY of FF7 itself. They weave in aspects of Crisis Core and Advent Children and I'm sure they'll be bringing in everything from the Compilation of FF7 into this remake at some point.

There are multiple sephiroths in play here (I think it was 4?) and they all seem to be different versions of him from different points in time or Reunion dudes taking on his persona. Both him and Aerith seems to already know what happens in original FF7 and are working to try to change things in their own ways. Regardless of how the future remake installments go, I think this first one is a masterpiece on its own and is most certainly my Game of the Year.
