This point in the game is like final act in Final Fantasy V; you technically can just jump straight to the final dungeon right now if you wish, but you're expected to explore the world doing sidequests to gain more power and experience. That's also a bit of the reason why the plot is not as strong now, you have the ability to do things in whatever order you like, or skip certain things, so the game can't rigidly enforce storylines like before. --- Okay, I rolled a 14.
