#74. Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1, 1998)

Final Fantasy Tactics was my gateway into strategy RPGs, a sub-genre I really had no clue about until I played this. I still haven't played a ton of sRPGs, but it was nice to get some familiar classes and spells and monsters in there to help with the segue.

The first time I played it, I really didn't take in the full depth or politics of the story. Maybe this is partly due to the slow speed I went through the first time, and maybe this is partly due to the PS1 translation. As I came back though, the story seemed smarter, and I was able to fully track characters and their intentions, and it was a lot more interesting.

There's obviously a lot of depth to the jobs and abilities and allocation of points you can do. It was fun to experiment with these, give Rad some goofy job and have him carry the team, give Ramza a bunch of Geomancer skills for some reason, whatever. I never got as crazy with customizing this as a bunch of other people do, and not even as much as I did in other games with character customization, but it's been a fun time for the amount I have played it.
