#83. Adventures of Lolo (NES, 1989)
Lolo, originally a Kirby boss of all things, stars in this very neat and pretty involved puzzle-"platformer" game for its time. Being a top down, theres no actual "platforming" but reaction times still matter in this game. On each map, the goal is to collect all the tokens, get the treasure, and get to the exit. But there are enemies who wish to kill you, each with their own puzzle-like mechanics, like the skulls that zoom in on you, the guys that only stay on the grass, or the totems that shoot you dead if you simply cross their path. So between pushing blocks around, using water and other obstacles smartly, routing, using your one-time power up per level (like a bridge or turn an enemy into a block), and the timing of when to get what all matters, since getting the final token generally wakes up all the enemies, but you need all the tokens before you get the treasure. It's a great puzzle game that isn't too hard but not too easy, and the levels are satisfying to solve. Think of it as sort of a precursor to Baba is You, but much less complicated. Again, maybe I shouldn't have it this high, but its a satisfying and unique puzzle game, and impressive for its time.

God, that repetitive music though.

Next up: SHOES!!! ...nevermind.
