I loved the DKC games quite a bit even though, as I said, I never actually owned them. The 3D environments felt super impressive at the time and the background work was always very lovingly done. I always preferred the 2nd one over the others - Diddy and Dixie handled similarly enough to one another and didn't feel different while playing and the level design is a notch up from 1 here without having yet gotten stale like it had by DKC 3.
