this isn't a very good thread for politics but just as an aside, because i have been thinking about it lately, he gave me more faith in people when it came to politics. in a period between '14-'16, everdownward was very into politics. a big life change had put him in a really sad place and despite the efforts of myself and a few others he started to lean towards radical right wing stuff. he was turbo into trump and UK conservative politics, etc

in '17 or so stuff started to change and he started to realize that not only were the things he was getting behind not what he had lead himself to believe they were, he also began to realize that period of time had really started to drive people away from him. he did a big 180 and while were living pretty far apart at that point, he reconnected with us and it astonished me how much of an effort he was not only to get back to his old self, but be an even better person than he was before.

whenever i just lose my patience with people being shitty on the internet over random terrible political stuff, i try to remind myself that i saw someone both get pulled into that crap and pull themself back out of it and don't fall into the whole "everyone who believes X is evil" trap. i don't always succeed, mind you, but i do try
