Like it's a fossil term that's only used in this one context. It's an actual suffix... maybe it used to be used more often back in the day, died off and only persisted in "necromancer", and then we revived the suffix to apply to other wizard types (eg, pyromancer) to echo "necromancer" rather than in conscious usage of the root --- The death is my life, the strength becomes my weakness, the journey has ended ...
