16. Byakuya

15. Teruteru He gets points for making me feel bad for him right before he died. He loses points for killing one of my favorite characters through an idiotic mistake. The game finally figured out to kill of the fat annoying pervert right away, which is a step up from last game where Hifumi waddled around for half the game sucking all the fun out.

14. Gundham This dude has basically no chance. I almost strangled him myself when he was babbling for like half the trial. Being the weird loner that makes hamsters have sex with each other isnt the recipe for longevity in a murder competition.

13. Kazuichi Crazy shark toothed mechanic. If the artist drew him without the explicit instructions to make it obvious he was a murderer, he messed up, badly. I dont know why Jared Leto as the Joker took a part time gig in a video game, but here is the end result of it.

12. Peko Again, being an ultimate swordsman is a bit of a hindrance here. The game doesnt want to keep her around, shes too strong and competent. Shell get killed, possibly by some sort of sword to confuse everyone as to how it could happen.

11. Nekomaru ON THE NEXT EPISODE OF YEP, ITS SHIT NEKOMARU TRIES TO FIGURE OUT WHETHER OR NOT IT IS TRUE THAT HE WHO SMELT IT, DEALT IT. Decent comic relief character that is too big and strong to make it to the end.

10. Sonia The game is basically setting her up for failure here. They killed off Byakuya because he was the leader, now we just need a physical force and moral force to get stabbed in the face and we have the perfect despair trifecta. There is no one more moral here than the literal princess begging everyone to get along and be friends, meaning she has no chance of making it to the end.

9. Hiyoko Its getting sort of tough here, because I can see a lot of these characters living from here on out when clearly they cant. The first game had no shortage of characters you knew were going to get thrown into the woodchipper eventually, but here there are actually a pretty decent amount of well rounded, potentially interesting characters so its hard. I like Hiyoko and she is my Gundham hating partner in crime, but she might also be a lunatic. There are flashes where it hints she is just sort of a normal girl, but there is something cruel to her as well were I could see her getting caught when we catch her playing in a puddle of blood.

8. Akane So far we know she likes to eat and is really dumb and also doesnt remember anyones name. I doubt shes smart enough to pull off a murder plot and also so dumb the people arent likely to kill her. She might make it to the end, but she really needs to get some sort of personality put together by then she has to do something other than ME HUNGRY ME WANT EAT eventuallyright? I guess the game might be getting ready to kill her off soon and figures she doesnt need any characterization but its hard to say for sure either way.

7. Fuyuhiko Im going through this list and Im realizing this game is pretty terrible with male characters. All the female characters are strong or interesting and all the guys kind of suck. Fuyuhiko actually has a decent shot of making it as he is really the only one I can see being put through a somewhat okay character arc. Like, hes crazy annoying now, but they kept hinting that he wanted to go to the party and have friends but couldnt bring himself to do it. Sort of like this games Byakuya. *sniff sniff* Miss you Byakuya

6. Nagito I know the game is basically jumping up and down right now to tell me how this guy is going to be a murderer or get murdered or help people do the murdering or something, but theres no way theyre killing him off yet. Hell be around to the very end. The game isnt going to kill off the main antagonist/trouble maker right away.

5. Ibuki Shes right in that niche of weird enough to be memorable, but not so weird that she comes off as psychotic. Shes also competent enough athletically without being so big and strong that the game is just waiting to take her down a peg. Pretty decent shot at survival.

4. Hajime There is some weird sort of thing going on with him and Nagito. Nagito keeps looking at me all weird like WERE THE SAME LETS MAKE FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS. We might be the Despair 1-2 combo like the first game had. I still thinks he makes it to the end, but there is a slight chance he dies off at the ending.

3. Mahiru These top three are really the only ones that were any damn use to me in the trial. Everyone else was standing around making armpit farts and hooting like monkeys. I feel pretty good about all of them surviving, but Mahiru was just a smidge less memorable than the other two. She probably makes it to the end, though.

2. Chiaki She really stepped up during the whole trial thing. With Byakuya dead and Nagito and raving lunatic, I was trying to figure out who the game would use in the whole psst why dont you try doing this role when the trial needs to get push forward in a way they cant think of working into the gameplay. Chiaki probably winds up sharing that role with Mahiru, which should bode well for both of them.

1. Mikan Im honestly surprise her top didnt pop open during the trial at any point, but the game seems intent on pushing the whole clumsy nurse that falls into compromising positions angle. You know, the oldest trope in the book. Between her relative competence in the trial, her role in evidence examination, and the fact she cant go more than two minutes without getting naked, shes basically guaranteed to make the end.
