i see you are adamant to ignore the fact ryukyuans are opressed. how do they revive a language already nearly snuffed out by japan? the elderly that speak it are dying off. the younger generation are forced to learn standard japanese.

Okinawa designated as the proxy signatory to the leases which permit the continued use of the Okinawans land by US forces. In 1996, the governor of Okinawa refused to sign the lease agreement on behalf of local owners who did not want to renew the leases. Japans Supreme Court proceeded to overrule the governors refusal to renew the leases
The Japanese government continues to refuse to consider the Rykyans as minorities or indigenous peoples.
Educational materials for use in public schools continue to be silent on the topic of the Rykyans as indigenous communities with their own languages, cultures and traditions.
The culture and traditional lands of Rykyans continue to be threatened by the denial of the right to free, prior and informed consent in policymaking, especially concerning the expansion of US military bases

The elderly are free to teach it to any young folk who are willing to listen and train.

Nobody is stopping them.

Okinawa is a part of Japan and they are part of the larger system. You don't always get what you want when you're part of the Federal System. And Okinawa isn't the ONLY place in Japan that has to host bases. There are MANY US bases spread throughout all of Japan as part of the armistice from WW2. Okinawa doesn't get to be a special snowflake when many other areas of Japan house US bases.

The Japanese consider the Ryukyuans as part of the greater Japanese culture and people.

Public School Systems are allowed to educate on what they deem as accurate and necesary.

If you don't agree with it, do your own independent research.

Guess what, many parts of Japan signed on the US-Japanese Armistice, it's not just Okinawa that had to make some sacrifices in land to accomodate US bases, you don't get to be a special Snow-Flake just because you're Okinawa.

US Bases in Japan are spread about all of Japan.

Get USED TO IT!

When you lose the war in WW2, winner gets to make the deals and the Japanese Government signed on the dotted line.

We're indebted to protect Japan, and that means US military bases.

That also means Okinawa ISN'T the only part of Japan that has US military bases.
