I get the feeling. I don't know how much room there really is for creative expression in bridge, though it might be worth pointing out that when you are the one playing the bid in bridge, you actually don't have a teammate. They lay their hand down face up and you play both hands.

My friend who taught me to play, well we like to treat the bidding more like poker as opposed to strictly following some decades old 72 times revised bidding convention. So it gets creative sometimes. He'll bid a suit he is weak in just to throw the other team off or block them out of certain bids. That wouldn't fly at an organized bridge club, but for just playing friendly house games it is a lot of fun for us.
