OKAY SO OVERALL THOUGHTS AND REFLECTIONS ON THE PROLOGUE
It was actually interesting to go back and read through what I thought four years ago. Funnily enough I have some very similar reactions to some things.
It is also interesting that I legitimately do not remember some of these things. I had no recollection of Kazuichi at all, which so far is understandable because he is basically a cardboard cutout in a sea of interesting characters. But I also had no recollection of Usami dying this early into the game. I shouldn't be getting surprised by the same twist two times in a four year period, but here we are.
"Antonio Cromartie already has like twelve kids so you better be at least in the double digits you little liar." Wow what a dated reference this is holy shit. Did I really play this in 2016? That had to have been an old reference even by then, right?
"Under her likes it just says black. I am surprised when her dislikes dont include peoples knees." Ok I'm going to be honest with you guys. I have no fucking clue what this is in reference to. 2016 Suprak thought this was a funny observation but 2020 Suprak is too old and no longer hip and with it enough to catch these sick references.
"Chiaki is the ultimate gamers. ACTUALLY ITS ABOUT ETHICS IN FORCED GLADITORIAL COMBAT, CHIAKI. Stupid girl." This here is a reference I wish I didn't get but I do and it makes me sad to think Gamergate was ever a thing. Now I am the one feeling DESPAIR.
It is also interesting (I'm using that word a lot but it is weird to go back and check out your past thinking process like this) to see that I thought Nagito was the mastermind behind all of this. Knowing what I know now about him being an unhinged lunatic, I don't think that is the case. But I could at least see why I would think that based on the events of the prologue alone.
They all sort of mutter who the mastermind could be, and 2020 Suprak now thinks that Hajime actually fits the bill the best. Junko is dead and you would assume it has to be someone on the island. So you're really just sort of down to Byakuya and Hajime as the two that would make the most shocking sort of choice. Byakuya dies at the end of chapter 1, so I don't think it would be him. And Hajime has been cage-y and forgetful about who exactly he is. It would be a pretty cool twist if the character you were playing as was the one who set this all up.
I have to say, it was nice getting back into Danganronpa 2. I love these early chapters where there are so many characters and you're just kind of meeting them all. Even the ones I hate I don't really hate. It is a big fun cast and it'll be sad to watch them dwindle down to like 5-6 characters by the end.
